Setting up your North homepage
The North homepage is built in Shopify’s theme editor using drag-and-drop sections. North has a clean, minimal structure — it’s one of the simpler homepages to set up, making it a great choice if you want a professional result quickly. This article walks you through the default layout and the key sections to customise first.
Opening the homepage editor
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize. The homepage loads by default. All your homepage sections are listed in the left panel — drag them to reorder, click the eye icon to hide, or click the + button at the bottom to add a new section.
Default homepage sections
The North demo ships with the following sections pre-configured:
| Section | What it does |
|---|---|
| Image With Text Overlay | Full-bleed hero image with heading and CTA overlaid. North uses this as its primary hero instead of a slideshow. |
| Multicolumn | A row of columns with icons and text — ideal for communicating your key USPs (free shipping, returns, quality). |
| Rich Text | Centred text block for a brand statement or welcome message. |
| Collage | A mosaic-style image grid that combines different-sized images — great for lifestyle or product photography. |
| Featured Collection | A product grid pulled from a collection you select. |
| Featured Blog | Your latest blog posts. Requires at least one published post to display. |
| Email Signup | A newsletter signup form with a heading and optional incentive text. |
Where to start
- Image With Text Overlay — Add a strong hero image (1920 × 1080 px or 1920 × 800 px) and a clear heading that communicates what your store sells. The overlay text should guide visitors to your main collection.
- Featured Collection — Connect this to your best-selling or most representative collection so real products appear on the homepage.
- Multicolumn — Update the icons and copy to reflect your actual USPs. 3–4 columns works best on North’s layout.
- Collage — Add 3–5 lifestyle or product images. North’s collage layout looks especially strong with varied image compositions.
- Rich Text — Write 1–2 sentences about your brand. Keep it short and brand-forward.
North also includes a unique Hotspot Slideshow section (not in the default layout but available to add) that lets you tag products directly on an image — worth adding if you have strong lifestyle photography.
