Setting up your Ascension homepage
The Ascension homepage is built in Shopify’s theme editor using drag-and-drop sections. You can add, remove, and reorder sections at any time without touching code. This article walks you through the default layout and the key sections to customise first.
Opening the homepage editor
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize. The homepage loads by default. All your homepage sections are listed in the left panel — drag them to reorder, click the eye icon to hide, or click the + button at the bottom to add a new section.
Default homepage sections
The Ascension demo ships with the following sections pre-configured:

| Image With Text Overlay | Full-bleed editorial image with a heading and CTA overlaid on top. |
| Featured Collection | A product grid pulled from a collection you choose. Set the number of products to display. |
| Image With Text Slideshow | Sequential slides pairing an image with editorial copy — good for brand storytelling. |
| Testimonials | Customer quotes in a clean carousel format. |
| Gallery | A grid of images — use for lifestyle photography, lookbook shots, or brand imagery. |
| Customer Reviews | Pulls in product reviews to display social proof at the homepage level. |
| Featured Blog | Displays your latest blog posts. Requires at least one published blog post to show. |
| Text With Icons | A row of icon + text pairs for USPs: free shipping, returns policy, quality guarantee, etc. |
Where to start
- Slideshow — Replace the placeholder slides with your own hero images (recommended size: 1920 × 1080 px). Update the heading, subtext, and button link on each slide.
- Collection List — Assign your main collections to the collection tiles so customers can navigate your store from the first scroll.
- Collection Tabs / Featured Collection — Connect these to your best-selling or featured collections so real products appear instead of placeholders.
- Text With Icons — Update the icons and text to reflect your store’s actual selling points (e.g. free shipping threshold, returns window).
- Testimonials — Add 3–5 real customer quotes. Short, specific quotes convert better than long paragraphs.
Sections like Gallery, Image With Text Overlay, and Image With Text Slideshow are great for brand storytelling — come back to these once you have professional photography ready.
