How to add product videos
All Fuel Themes support product videos natively through Shopify’s product media system. You can add a YouTube or Vimeo video directly to any product, and it will appear in the product image gallery alongside your photos.
Step 1 — Upload or host your video
Shopify supports two ways to add video to a product:
- YouTube or Vimeo (recommended) — Upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo, then copy the video URL. This is the most reliable option and keeps your Shopify file storage clean.
- Direct upload — Shopify allows you to upload .mp4 files directly to a product. Files must be under 1 GB and encoded in H.264 format. Note that direct uploads count against your Shopify file storage limit.
Step 2 — Add the video to your product
- In your Shopify admin, go to Products and open the product you want to edit.
- In the Media section, click Add media.
- To add a hosted video, paste your YouTube or Vimeo URL into the URL field and click Add media.
- To upload directly, drag and drop your .mp4 file into the media area.
- Drag the video thumbnail to reorder it within the product gallery. Most merchants place it as the second or third media item, after the main product photo.
- Click Save.
Step 3 — Preview on your storefront
After saving, open the product page on your live store (or use Online Store → Themes → Preview) and navigate to the product. The video will appear as a thumbnail in the media gallery. Customers can click it to play inline — no redirect to YouTube or Vimeo.
Tips
- Keep product videos short — 15 to 60 seconds works best for showing a product in action.
- If uploading to YouTube, you can set the video to Unlisted so it doesn’t appear in search results but still works on your store.
- Make sure your video has a strong thumbnail — Shopify uses the video’s auto-generated thumbnail in the gallery.
